Quick estimate

What a move costs you

Type what you owe. We'll show the change in your monthly repayment if your lender passes a move on in full.

One 0.25 rise+$99 One 0.25 cut−$99 The four rises of 2026+$396

Example only, per month, on a 30-year principal-and-interest loan: about $16 to $17 for every $100,000 owed, per 0.25 move. Your figure depends on your rate, term and lender. General information only.

Before and after a decision.

Four things worth doing whichever way it goes.

Know your number

Check your current rate and repayment on your lender's app, then run the estimate above so a rise isn't a surprise.

Watch your lender, not the RBA

Your rate is set by your lender. Most announce their own change within days, and it usually takes effect within a couple of weeks.

Compare with new customers

Lenders often charge existing customers more than they offer new ones. A gap is worth asking about, whatever the RBA does.

Fixed? Mark the end date

A fixed rate doesn't move until the fixed period ends. Plan for the rate you'll roll onto, not the one you have.

Rate updates

Know on the day, not when the letter arrives.

One short email on each RBA decision day: what moved, what it adds to a typical repayment, and what's worth doing. Nothing else in between.

Cash rate questions.

Straight answers. If yours isn't here, ask cinchi (bottom right) or book a chat.

01What is the cash rate?+
It's the interest rate banks charge each other for overnight loans, and the Reserve Bank sets a target for it. It isn't your home loan rate, but most variable home loan rates move when it moves.
02Will rates rise on 3 November?+
Nobody knows until 2:30pm on the day. The September quarter inflation figures, out on 28 October, carry the most weight. Our article on what decides the RBA's next move walks through the signals.
03When does a change reach my repayments?+
Your lender decides whether to pass a change on, by how much, and from when. Most announce within days and apply it within a couple of weeks. Your repayment may adjust a little later, depending on how your loan is set up.
04Does a rate rise affect a fixed loan?+
Not until the fixed period ends. Then the loan rolls onto the lender's variable rate at that time, which is why it's worth reviewing a few months before the end date.
05Should I fix now?+
It depends on your plans, your buffer and what fixed rates are pricing in. Our article on whether to fix in November 2026 sets out the trade-offs, and a broker from our team can look at your loan.
06What if repayments are getting hard?+
Talk to your lender's hardship team early; they have options. The National Debt Helpline (1800 007 007) is confidential and costs nothing to call. Our financial hardship page explains the steps.
